De Gavers walking route

Water, forest and animals? Just tick them all off on your child-friendly hiking checklist. The De Gavers route takes you about five kilometres through the provincial sports and nature area De Gavers in Geraardsbergen. The whole domain has paved paths that are accessible for buggies and wheelchairs. Spending a night here is also possible: De Gavers has holiday homes, a campsite and glamping with safari tents and teepees.

De Gavers is located in Onkerzele, a borough of Geraardsbergen. You can go swimming, boating and practise various sports in the domain. A walk through the domain is also recommended. The pond is adjacent to the peaceful banks of the Dender, which provides a green and peaceful backdrop for your walk. The route starts at node 1, which you'll find just after the car park.

Please note that the playground is to be renovated from November 2022 to spring 2023 and will not be accessible during that time.

The Dender

On your walk, follow the towpath of the Dender. You won't encounter many cargo ships on the river anymore. Here, the industrial function of the river has been almost completely replaced by a recreational one. A dream for cyclists and hikers.
